While we knew that several other DC comics roles have been cast for the upcoming Justice League: Part One it wasn’t exactly clear if everybody would be making appearances in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice or not. According to Anthony Breznican of Entertainment Weekly, we can expect at least three of those heroes to show up, if only briefly. After seeing the movie, he reports:
There are other characters, like Aquaman, The Flash, and Cyborg who turn up in kind of smaller roles, more cameo oriented.
Zack Snyder has talked about the importance of making the DC cinematic universe a place where it feels like all different sorts of heroes belong. The best way to do that is to actually place them in the world. This now gives us a total of six Justice League members who will be appearing in some capacity or another. They had all been rumored as appearing before but this looks to solidify those rumors.
There’s actually more than a little to unpack from this quote. While we now know to keep our eyes open for Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, and Ray Fisher, who will be playing the three new heroes, it sounds like we will actually see them as their hero characters, not simply as people. The parts are also referred to a "cameo-oriented" which is not the same things as "cameo" roles. It gives the impression only that the roles are smaller than that of Wonder Woman, not that they are necessarily brief appearances. This makes some sense as, if you’re going to drop Aquaman into the middle of this story, it wouldn’t make sense to just have him appear, say a couple of lines, and then swim off. This will be their introduction as much as it is for Batman and Wonder Woman, if you want the audience to buy in, you need to give them their moment. Finally, the statement that "other characters, like" these three will be appearing, may also imply that there will be others showing up as well that we’re not being told about.
It certainly does make us look forward to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice all the more. Now we know we’ll get our first look at most of the Justice League and have a much better idea where the franchise as a whole is heading.
