There is hardly any news about the “Justice League” movie, especially the plot. Basic information is known about the man cast — the superheroes who will also appear in “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice.” However, there has been a new update about the movie — a new cast member has been added to the “Justice League” movie and it is not a superhero.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, J.K. Simmons will take over the role that Gary Oldman played in the “Dark Knight” trilogy — Commissioner Gordon. Simmons does have a previous connection with the superhero world. In Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” trilogy, which starred Toby Maguire as the web caster, Simmons played Jonah Jameson, Daily Bugle’s editor-in-chief.
Now, Simmons has jumped from the Marvel universe to DC. Unlike his role in the “Spider-Man” movies, where he hated Spider-Man and did everything he could to discredit him, in “Justice League” it will be the opposite. Here as Commissioner Gordon, he is Batman’s ally and also serves to work as his moral compass at times. He is ready to aid Batman and works closely with him to rid Gotham of crime and corruption.
Simmons joins a talented list of actors who have played this role before — Lyle Talbot in “Batman and Robin” (1949), Neil Hamilton in the 1960s’ “Batman” TV series and Pat Hingle from 1989 to 1997 in the four “Batman” movies of Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher. The most recent portrayal, as mentioned above, was by Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” trilogy. Currently, Ben McKenzie plays the young James Gordon in the “Gotham” TV series.
According to Variety, Warner Bros. has made no comment regarding this news. “Justice League” is being directed by “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” director Zack Snyder and features a slew of superheroes — Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg. Green Lantern will make an appearance in the second part of “Justice League.”
“Justice League” will be released on Nov. 17, 2017.
