First Official Look at Marvel’s Spider-Man

According to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, he and his inner circle always knew Spider-Man would be a part of Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even though no deal had been made by the time they announced their Phase 3 schedule, they had still planned for Peter Parker to join the franchise.

Months later, when the partnership between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios became a reality, it was revealed that this new Spider-Man would first appear in a Marvel movie before getting his own solo film in 2017. That movie is Captain America: Civil War and somehow, until today, no one has seen this character. No leaked art. No leaked set photos. Nothing. Fans only know what Marvel has been willing to talk about, which has been very little.

We even visited the set of Captain America: Civil War and didn’t see anything. The cast and crew wouldn’t talk about Spider-Man so you could be forgiven for thinking maybe there wasn’t enough time to fit the character into the story of Captain America 3.

But then came rumors. There were rumors Marvel was shooting scenes with Spider-Man stunt doubles before the character was even cast, just like there were rumors Marvel and Sony were working on a deal to share the character in the first place. All of this was true. So perhaps it shouldn’t be a  surprise that rumors about the second Captain America: Civil War trailer revealing Spider-Man are true as well.After all, we heard ourselves that an early version of this trailer would include Spider-Man, but that was alongside word that there was internal debate about that decision and that Marvel may hold him back. But who cares now? He’s here. Marvel unveiled Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and his new costume.

How Captain America: Civil War Star Sebastian Stan Felt Watching The Movie For The First Time

One of the most highly anticipated movies of  2016 is the upcoming superhero ensemble piece Captain America: Civil War. After building a universe and lineup of heroes over the course of eight years, we’ll now be able to see all the superpowered individuals duke it out amongst themselves. Hype for Civil War only increased with both trailers for the film, which gave us just enough of a tease, without giving away too much. But now the question is: how good will the film actually be?

Much of the conflict in Civil War revolves around Captain America (Chris Evans) and his relationship and loyalty to his former best friend Bucky aka The Winter Soldier, played by Sebastian Stan. Stan recently spoke out regarding his reaction to seeing Civil War for the first time, saying:

I sat there and basically there was a bowl of candy and fruit and gum in front of me and then there were sparkling waters and I basically sat on the edge of my couch the entire time and ate through the entire bowl of candy. I was overly stimulated with this movie, which I’m so proud to be in because everyone is fucking awesome in it. Everyone is fucking fantastic. I walked out of it speechless, and I worked on the movie and I was there! I walked out of there and I had back pain from leaning.

Well, that’s a glowing review to say the least. Bowl of candy aside, Sebastian Stan’s comment seems to tell us a something about the upcoming third chapter of the Captain America franchise.

Not that is is a huge surprise, but it seems like we’re going to be getting a ton of action during Civil War. We all knew that there was going to be a giant super powered battle at the climax of the film, including the brand spankin new Spider-Man, but now it seems that the fighting and battles will be pretty consistent throughout. In order to keep Sebastian Stan, who worked on the project, at the edge of his seat then things must be pretty wild. Considering that Captain America: Civil War has a pretty long runtime of 2 hours and 26 minutes, something big has to happen in order to keep the audience’s attention for so long.

Of course, given how epic the newest trailer is, I doubt I’ll be bored at anytime throughout the new film. Check it out.

Multiple Marvel Stars Helped Tom Holland Audition For Spider-Man

It takes a village to make a superhero. This is apparently the lesson that Tom Holland learned while auditioning to play Spider-Man. He called in every favor and looked for every opportunity he could to make his case to Marvel that he was the guy for the job. Luckily, he found several people looking to help him out, including The Punisher and Thor.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting so large that you can’t swing a dead cat in Hollywood without hitting multiple people who wear tights, at least part time. The benefit of this, is that when you’re an actor auditioning for a role with Marvel Studios, odds are you know somebody who already has one. Such was the case when Tom Holland was auditioning to play Spider-Man. He had previously worked with Thorhimself, Chris Hemsworth, as part of Ron Howard’s seafaring epic In the Heart of the Sea. According to the New York Daily News, Holland reached out to Hemsworth and asked the god of thunder to put in a good word for him with the higher ups at Marvel. We already know what the actor said, as he told us personally a few months back that he had nothing but praise for Holland’s work ethic.

While we’re sure Chris Hemsworth’s opinion carried some weight, we also know that Tom Holland didn’t simply wait around after that. When the actor found himself filming the 13th century period drama Pilgrimage with Jon Bernthal, the man who wanted to be The Punisher at the same time that Holland was working toward becoming Spider-Man, the two decided to work together in order to make their audition tapes better. It’s a fitting pairing considering The Punisher’s first comic book appearance was inside the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man. The trick worked, as both men ended up scoring their respective roles. Now we're anxious to see them both in action! 

Tom Holland’s campaign to be the next Spider-Man was an epic one. After the Thor favor he called in and the audition tapes with The Punisher, we also know that he pushed his gymnastics background hard, including something physical in every tape so that Marvel knew he would be capable of doing the job. We can imagine the sigh of relief that the actor made yesterday when he finally saw himself in the most recent trailer for Captain America: Civil War.
